Hours later, waiting for Johnny to pick him up after his coaching was done for the day, Ken still hadn’t figured out just what all of this meant.

He just didn’t know how this stuff went. Was that Johnny just telling him that he didn’t mind going out with him, even if other people might think it was a date? Or was Johnny actually, honestly okay with really going on a date with Ken?

Everything about this confused Ken. Hell, he’d never even really been in a relationship before. He felt way out of his depth.

But Johnny had taken it so easily that he had to wonder if he wasn’t just overthinking the whole thing. He probably was. So if he didn’t want to make things weird tonight, he was going to have to play it cool. Let things happen as they would.

When Johnny arrived, he wasn’t alone. Actually, he was crammed into the backseat of Shelley’s little car. Ken, who had used the community center to shower and change already, climbed in when Tina let him into the back.

When the greetings had been exchanged, Ken looked around at the other people in the car. They were all dressed not that differently from what he was wearing, casually but neatly, in jeans.

He’d been a bit nervous that they would be headed somewhere that would need different clothes. A nightclub, for instance. But hopefully they would have told him if that were the case.

As it was, he could relax. It was actually pretty pleasant to be in the cramped back seat, because it meant that he had no choice but to cuddle close to Johnny, which was hardly heartbreaking.

“So we thought we’d be tourists for the night. Hit the Space Needle,” Tina told him, grinning over her shoulder at him. “Pretend we can actually afford to go to the restaurant there.”

Ken smirked a little. He didn’t get to cut loose too often, and the idea appealed to him. Going to a fancy restaurant sounded like fun, and since they were on the West Coast, their casual outfits would fit in just fine even there.

“Sounds good,” he said, and then his heart did a funny little flutter, sort of melting when Johnny took his hand in his and slipped his fingers between Ken’s so that they were intimately holding hands.
