“What?”

“When you were younger, how did you know you were gay?”

Josh asked.

Troy sighed. The sound was thick with sadness.

“I know we shouldn’t be talking about it, but I want to know.”

“It started when I couldn’t get hard for a girl in high school. She

was a hot girl, and I was dating her. We kept getting hot and heavy,

and after a little messing around, my guy wouldn’t stand up to go any

further. I know, unreal. All guys with hormones want a girl. I was out

one night. My folks were away, and I think a carnival had come to

town or something. Anyway, I got drunk and ended up kissing one of

the carnival workers behind the party house. One thing led to another,

and before I even realised it, I’d taken him home and we fucked.”

Josh waited for him to continue.

“The next morning, I freaked out. There I was, in high school at

the peak of my performance, and I lost my virginity to a guy that

worked in a carnival.”

“What did you do?” Josh asked.

“The only thing I could do. I had sex with my girlfriend.”

“And how was it?”

“Fucking awful. I hated every second, and so did she. Within the

week she’d dumped my ass, and the only thing to get my rocks off

was that damn carnival guy.” Josh turned into a garage to fill up with

some gas. Troy stopped to get out of the car. He let him go pay.

He was happier when he saw him come back to the car loaded

with snacks. Maybe talking would help him deal with the situation as

well.

They were back on the motorway before Troy began talking. “So

after two months of trying to ignore the carnival guy, I finally gave up

denying myself. I saved up and took a trip into the city to visit a gay

bar. I was over eighteen, and some bars accept us at that age. I met a

guy who clearly saw I was struggling. He helped me deal with my
