“It’s a lovely room.” Truly stood at the window of the bedroom she would be staying in and looked out over the city. “I appreciate this.”

“I know it isn’t ideal – you like your space and independence – but you’ll sleep easier here than anywhere else. No one can get in this Watermark Tower who doesn’t belong.”

“I get it. Fort Knox. I swear this place has everything. It’s like its own little world in this building,” she acknowledged, looking over her shoulder at CT.

“It really does. And what we don’t have in the building can be found within a one-block radius. A lot of thought has gone into this place.”

“I can imagine. Given the purpose it serves, it makes sense they would make it an easy stay,” she said.

“We don’t bring clients here often. Only higher profile or close cases come to this building. But many of the O’Reilly’s live here and several Keepers.”

“Living out in the open would be tough,” she said. “You all have to keep such low profiles and have targets on your back. May as well have a safe – and luxurious – place to live.”

“This isn’t forever, Tru. You know that, right? I know this isn’t what you want, but it really is safer,” he assured, landing a hand on her shoulder to offer comfort.

“I’m not complaining.” She smiled, though he knew she wasn’t herself. The adrenaline was wearing off, and the day’s events were catching up with her. It had to be. “I love this view. It must be the best in the city. You can see everything from here.”

“There really isn’t a bad view in the place. No matter what side of the building you’re on, there’s something worth looking at.” Of course, the statement was meant to be in general, but deep down, he was speaking of her. She was the only view he was interested in. “Have you been on the rooftop before?”

“No. I’ve been in the lobby and the conference room. What do you call it? The Lair?” she said. “Oh, and the parking garage and elevator.” She snickered.

“Well, the rooftop is magnificent. Talk about a whole world of its own. The gardens are amazing, and the views are even better there. You can see all the way to McKenzie Ridge from up there,” he said, referring to a small mountain town that was familiar to locals as a hot small-town mountain getaway spot.

“I bet you can. Be careful. You’re selling it a little hard, Tango. I may never leave.”

“Would that be so bad?” His question was forward, but it was honest. Seeing her in his space as she was made him want her that much more – as a permanent fixture. The desire to protect her was elevated tenfold after what the past couple of days had brought them, and now more than ever, he knew exactly what he wanted with her. This. Her, in his home, by his side. It was simple really. At least in his mind, it was.
