We had been here for five days, and there was a war going on around us. I don’t know why Jonathan didn’t move his family out of here when this first started. We found four hideouts so far, but Jonathan’s wife and family weren’t in any of them. The people wanted us to help them, and we couldn’t do anything. We were here to do a job, but when we saw the school with the buses parked in front, we all decided that we would come back and try to save more people. Hopefully, we would find out where they were soon and if they were still alive.

Kash looked at us, “Do you think that school has an underground garage?”

“Let’s check it out. So far, we aren’t having any luck,” I said, turning around and going back to the school. “It’s not far from their home, so maybe they are all hiding there.” It took forty-five minutes to get back to the school, we parked and started running. I could hear bombs going off in the distance. We had to get the hell out of there in a hurry. We all knew we were here to do a job, and if we could save more people, we would.

“What’s this?” There was a door, and we all looked at each other. It was a basement. We tried the door, it was locked from the inside. We pounded on it shouting to see if anyone was inside, but no one answered.

“I’m shooting the lock off,” Asher said. We all stepped back. In the first shot, we heard screaming and crying. “Open the door, we are here to help you,” I shouted. A man opened the door, it was so hot in that room I didn’t know how anyone could breathe. “Is Ellen Bixby in here?”

“Yes, I’m right here!” she cried. She was carrying two small children, the other four followed close behind her. “I’m Ellen Bixby, and these little ones are my children. I can’t find my husband?”

“He called us in America and sent us to bring all of you to Poland, he’s in the hospital there. How many people are here?” Asher and Kash were handing out protein bars to everyone. I took one of the babies from Ellen and carried her to the shade.

“Sixteen people, including us.”

Kash walked to one of the buses, and Asher went to another. Kash hot-wired both buses and everyone climbed onto Kash’s bus.

“We will stop at a few more places and pick up some more people then we’ll make our way to Poland.”

“What if someone tries to kill all of us?” a man shouted from the back of the bus.

“We will shoot them before they shoot us.”

“But there are Bombs destroying our country. They are going off everywhere.”

“We know that. If you can sit quietly, we’ll let Kash drive the vehicle, that way, we can listen for other vehicles approaching from around us.” I stared the man down, and he sat back down. “Where is your family?”

“All gone.
