Chapter Three

“So, what did you two lazy bastards get up to last night?” Paul poured four mugs of tea and slid two of them across the counter.

Aaron quickly picked his up and blew on it to hide his face. Hopefully if he was blushing, they’d assume it was heat from the mug. Not that anything had happened last night. Rob had been gone when he’d woken up at two in the morning. But their conversation beforehand still made his cheeks heat every time he thought about it. The lack of alcohol in his system made it even worse.

Rob took the other cup and sat down on one of the stools. “Watched a film with a couple of beers and went to bed at a reasonable hour, unlike some.”

“Four o’clock is a perfectly respectable time for a man of my age.” Paul sipped his tea, wincing as it burned his tongue.

Rob laughed at him. “But did you have to make so much noise when you came in? I reckon you woke up half the street.”

“Fuck off. I was like a mouse.”

They argued back and forth for a few minutes, and Aaron drank his tea, content to let the conversation wash over him. Harry obviously had the same idea—he had his head pillowed on his arms at the dining table and hadn’t looked up once.

“What about you, Aaron? What did you do while normal people were out having fun?”

Paul’s question startled him out of his daydreaming, and he reluctantly glanced up.

“Oh, I was watching the film with Rob.”

Paul laughed. “Ahh. I bet he had you spilling your dirty secrets in no time. Rob’s chatty and nosy as fuck when he’s had beer—a terrible combination.” He quickly put his tea on the counter and jumped out of the way when Rob went to punch him on the arm. “Piss off. It’s true.”

“I don’t know what you mean.” Rob caught Aaron’s eye and winked.

Warmth flared in Aaron’s chest, and he looked back down at his mug, smiling. Thankfully Rob steered the conversation onto something else before Paul could ask him anything further.

The four of them spent the day lounging in front of the TV, alternating between watching crap and playing on Paul’s Xbox. Paul and Harry were out again that night. Aaron was thinking about joining them liked he’d promised, when Rob yawned and stretched and declared he couldn't be bothered to go out. His T-shirt rode up as he lifted his arms, and then he scratched absently at the strip of bare skin on show.

Aaron watched, unable to look away as Rob’s fingers rubbed over the dark happy trail leading into his jeans. The black and green band of his boxers peeked over the top of his waistband, and Aaron idly wondered if he wore tight or loose underwear.

“Aaron?”

“Um, sorry, what?” He looked up to find all three of them staring at him with expressions ranging from frustrated to amused. From the look on Paul’s face, it hadn’t been the first time he’d called his name, and from the look on Rob’s—he knew exactly why Aaron hadn’t answered.
