Methodology

Data

Data on the TCI, real GDP, an indicator of the GFEC and international tourism arrivals from the 2002–10 period were used. The selected data periods were adjusted to the availability of TCI measurements, which started in 2003 and produce yearly and four-monthly data. The latest updated data were collected from IMF financial statistics and UNWTO databases available in July 2010 (UNWTO 2010c; IMF 2010). In addition to data for Africa, data on the world level were used as a standard for benchmarking.
