The next morning, Michele slept in late. By the time she went down to the kitchen, Gloria was peeling potatoes at the table. She looked up at her and said, “Good morning, sleepyhead.”

Michele smiled, then asked while she was rummaging through the cupboards looking for something to eat, “Did you feed all the animals yet?”

“Hours ago.”

“Sorry. I meant to get up early and help you.”

“That’s ok. You can feed them tonight. After our Christmas dinner.” Michele grabbed some cereal out of the cupboard. Gloria warned her, “Don’t eat too much. I’m making a big ham with all the fixings for dinner.”

“Do you need any help?”

“No. I think I have everything set for now. Are you and Paul ready for the trip to visit your grandmother?”

“Yep. We got the airline tickets yesterday.”
