A weight lifted from her shoulders, Grace felt light and truly free. She’d found someone she could confide in, trust not to think her mad, and to form a future with possibly. She couldn’t be certain of Bran’s intentions other than helping in the shop, but she was glad he was here.

She’d been stuck in the past, but for the first time in years, she was alive. She wanted the impression of his lips on hers, desired the sensation of his flesh touching her bare skin, and hungered to know what he could make her experience if propriety weren’t in the way.

Her fingers left his palm and skimmed across the sensitive flesh on the top of his hand. His lids closed, and he inhaled sharply. She continued to trail her fingers over his wrist, then over his shirt, and up to his forearm.

His eyes opened, and what she saw there should have frightened her. It didn’t, probably because the depths of his gaze shone with the same emotions that had her body clenching and crying to know more. The ecstasy of it was new to her, an uncharted cave of delights that she was craving to explore.

His head dipped toward hers as the sounds of movement from the store reached her ears. He stopped, stood, and backed as if he were a thief caught plundering the king’s jewels. He didn’t have to be ashamed. She was giving freely.

And she’d wanted a kiss, perhaps more, but Bette was here, and it was time to open the store for the shortened workday. She stood and followed Bran down the stairs.

As they descended, she relished the knowledge that she had something to look forward to after the Emporium closed for the afternoon.

The morning quickly passed as customers came and went. She couldn’t remember a time when the shop had been so busy, and with new clients, ones she’d never seen before, which was odd because she never forgot a face. Whatever was going on, she was thankful for the increased traffic.

Many of the new customers left with words of praise for her offerings and the cleanliness of the store. Perhaps they would return.

As Bette exited the front door and Grace locked up the shop for the day, excitement filled her. She turned to find Bran watching her and smiling.

“Are ye ready?” he asked.

“Aye,” she said as she followed him to the back.

They closed the shop and began strolling. She followed Bran as they talked about how she’d found Mackie and how Bran enjoyed doing work around Camelot to improve their home.

He guided her to a spot near the water. The views were open and lovely, but she couldn’t take her eyes from him as peace filled her.

The day was one of the bonniest they’d had in weeks, sunny with a slight wind that blew in from the water. Bran had brought a bundle of bread and cheese along with a flagon of wine, and they now sat on a bench overlooking the shore as they had the light snack.
