We took a longer break than usual after lunch, and that helped Riva with recovering her stamina, so all of us dove into the spring after our break was over. It seemed like obunia fruits could be found at the bottom of the spring, so I slowly swam around while I searched for some, but it was too blurry to see anything. I wasnât able to see anything from above water, and the same applied even when I soaked my face underwater. Hmm, this seems a bit too hard. Perhaps we should have prepared some things like swimming goggles or aquascopes. It might be possible to find some if we dive all the way to the bottom, but that doesnât sound very efficient considering how large this spring is.
I had doubts about whether or not we would be able to actually find a decent amount of obunia fruits, and unfortunately for us, I was proven right in the end. The eight of us spent about an hour searching for obunia fruits, but the total amount that we found was a mere five. Our trip here was technically a half vacation and half work trip, but that didnât change the fact that this wasnât a very productive result, so we all gathered up in one place once again to discuss things with each other.
âCanât we just pluck obunia fruits directly from the trees that they grow on?â Touya asked. âWe have people like Nao that are good at climbing trees, so...â
Touya looked up in an attempt to search for any obunia trees that had fruit growing on them, but Riva shook her head when she heard Touyaâs words. âObunia is a type of underwater flower, and there arenât any growing in this spring.â
According to Riva, obunia was a very strange plant. Most plants that produced fruits would only drop them after they were ripe, but obunia bore fruits underwater, and the fruits would separate from the plant when they were half-ripe and flow away with the movement of river water and water veins. It seemed like the fruits would slowly ripen during this time, and they would eventually arrive at a final location where they ingrained themselves to finish ripening. As a result, you couldnât harvest obunia fruits even if you found where they grew initially, and the fact that the ripe fruits could end up at all sorts of places was a real hassle, so it was quite hard to find places like the spring that we had searched around that served as the final destination of obunia fruits.
âWell, this is supposed to be a place where a lot of obunia fruits end up,â said Riva. âHowever, we found way too few from the amount of time that we spent searching. I wonder if something like the flow of water had changed...â
âItâs also possible that someone else might have arrived here and harvested them before us,â said Haruka. âHow likely is that, Riva?â
âUnlikely, I think. Iâm probably the only alchemist in Laffan, after all,â Riva replied.
