Chapter Eight

Grim

"Madalin, I don't know what to say," I said and I knew it was the lamest excuse I could possibly give. "This really isn't a good time for me."

"Yeah, well I figured it would be something like that with you. There is always a reason you can't do what you need to," Madalin had every right to throw it up. "One day Garrison, you are going to look at the choices you made and wish you had not been so fucking scared and by that time it will be too late." Madalin left me sitting outside the local ice cream parlor. I called a cab and prayed the whole way home that Lyndy and Daniel were in bed.

I walked in the house and realized I had no such fucking luck. Lyndy was in bed, but Daniel was sitting on the couch. He looked up and shoved a beer toward me. "So is she marrying some other guy or do you have some happy news?"

I couldn't believe the little shit, "Well there aren't going to be any wedding bells except yours. She told me she needed more from me. I told her I didn't know what to say and that this wasn't a good time right now."

"Dude," Daniel said, "if that isn't the most fucked up pitiful fucking excuse I have ever heard. Think about this Grim, what if I had said that to Lyndy? You would have ripped my fucking balls off and shove them down my fucking throat."

I rubbed my hands over my face and I knew he was right. I needed to call Madalin, now. I didn’t know if she would answer me, but there was only one way to find out. I picked up the phone and dialed her number. There was no answer after the first try. I hung up the phone. Damn, I had fucked it up.

I paced from the couch to the kitchen and back. I couldn't just give up. I called again. She answered after the second ring. I could tell she had been crying, "Hel...lo," she could barely get the word out.

"Madalin, please don't hang up. I was an ass. Can I come over?" I asked.

She gulped air and half sobbed, "I swear to God, Garrison. If you come over with another bullshit excuse I will literally cut off your dick and shove it down your throat and celebrate as you choke on it."

"I promise that I will let you but it won't come to that." I gave her a quick goodbye and headed out to her house. She and I had been casual for so long that I hadn't known if I wanted more, but driving over all I could think is how my life would be without her.

When I pulled up I saw the garage door open. I rolled my bike in as she stood in her robe at the door. She had been crying and it was my fault. I started walking to the door and she turned and walked into the house.
