I led the way out of the decrepit cottage, with Buck behind me carrying the bulky envelope he’d discovered hidden in the ceiling. As soon as Emily saw me, she started waving her hands and nearly jumped up and down.

“Nora called and you’ll never guess who owned the fishing fleet back in the seventies, and still does today,” she said.

When she spotted Buck holding the manila envelope, Emily’s jaw dropped open.

“Where the hell did you find that? Is there anything inside?”

“We haven’t opened it yet.”

“Well get to it, yeah?” Emily blurted.

Buck placed the large envelope on the ground, and everyone hovered over him as he undid the clasp.

Winston rubbed his palms together in excitement. Maybe he was hoping there were matching earrings and bracelet to the Heart of Ceylon. Buck then unceremoniously opened the envelope wide, reached inside and pulled out a sheaf of loose, yellowed content.

“Newspaper articles?” I asked. “Why would someone hide them in the ceiling?”

Buck scanned the headlines, and then looked up with his eyes wide. “‘Thieves Arrested for the Baker Street Robbery!’” he said. He handed that one to Emily who scanned it, and then looked up.

“It says the men who planned and executed the robbery were all arrested. Their names were Anthony Gavin, Benjamin Wolfe, Reg Tucker and Thomas Stephens.”

“What are the odds of that being in the ceiling of the man who owned the fishing fleet?” I asked.

Buck shuffled through the stack of papers. “There are other articles cut out of The Times, The Guardian and The Observer, all tracking the Baker Street robbery case.” He handed those to Emily too but kept hold of what appeared to be a legal document.

“What’s that?” I asked.

Buck shuffled through the pages and then smiled. “It’s a draft lease for a shop called Le Sac.”

“What the hell?” Emily said.

Underneath that, Buck held up a sketch of what looked like a building with names appearing over top of three spaces. I read them aloud, “Lloyds Bank—”

“Which was the institution robbed in the Baker Street robbery,” Buck interjected.

“Chicken Inn and Le Sac,” I said reading the other two names. There appeared to be a plumbing line leading from Le Sac underneath Chicken Inn and then up into the Lloyds Bank. My jaw fell open. “That’s a diagram for a tunnel.”

“Cripes!” Emily said. She then danced in place with excitement as she lifted her sunglasses up on top of her head. “As I was saying, you’ll never guess who owned the fleet, along with this house, which are all held in a corporate name of Rogue Fleet, Ltd.—”

“Lord Lionel Hoskins,” Buck said.

Emily threw her hands down by her sides. “You spoiled my surprise. How the hell did you know?”

“Harry had said his nickname back in London was the Rogue Royal,” Buck recalled, smiling. “It would seem he embraced that reputation in the naming of his company. And this cottage and that envelope full of details about the robbery ties Lord Hoskins to both Calloway, and perhaps your father, Eddie.”

Buck’s conclusion caused my heart to skip a beat.
