Chapter 11

“What am I doing?”

Geoff scowled as he stopped pacing up and down the length of his living room. He gazed out at the back deck for a few moments before turning to face Dylan.

“Be honest,” Geoff told him, and he meant it. He wanted answers.

His personal assistant was quietly sitting on the sofa, watching him try to work out his anxiety. “From what you've told me, it's just sexual satisfaction. I'm not privy to any more details than that,” Dylan answered carefully. “But if I were to venture a guess...”

Geoff slipped his hands into his pockets and waited for his personal assistant to speak up. Dylan had a way of finding the truth in the situation.

“I think you're falling for him,” Dylan said.

A flood of emotions hit Geoff all at once at the suggestion. His cheeks burned with annoyance, and he opened his mouth to tell Dylan off just a second before the thought occurred to him: if it wasn't true, why did it bother him so much?

He closed his mouth again and tightened his jaw, nodding to Dylan to go on.

“You've hired him not just for his previous experience – which looks fine, he checks out that way and I'll be providing the training anyway. I don't think it's the wisest decision, but it's also not unexpected.”

“It isn't?”

Dylan smiled slightly as he rose to his feet. “Geoff, I've been working with you for years now. You think I don't notice when your attention is wandering – when you're daydreaming in lust, and when you're doing so with a smile?”

Geoff was almost speechless. Dylan was rarely so candid, but then, he had asked for the truth.

“It's going to create problems, you know that. I can mitigate some of them, but if you're not careful with him – if you insist on office sex, there's only so much I can do.”

“I didn't have any other opportunity--” Geoff cut himself off before he made excuses. He could have invited Ryan home, but then that risked being considered a date.

Was he ready to date Ryan?

Fuck. I want to.

Dylan gave him a knowing look. “You will now that he's accepted this position. He'll be busy with the move, but after that...”

Ugh. That's so far away. “I see.” Geoff turned again to walk over to the window overlooking the green belt below his house. It was a calming view, and one he took in each morning with a cup of coffee after his chef cooked breakfast.

For the past month, he'd been alone in this ritual.

Dylan had been right when he'd said he felt more strongly for Ryan than he was trying to let on. If he didn't, he wouldn't be picturing Ryan standing next to him.

“Do you think he's... likely to...” Geoff trailed off. He couldn't even say it. He couldn't fall for the wrong man again.
