Thunder seemed on edge. At first, I’d been worried it was something I’d said or done. Then I’d noticed the way he kept glancing at my dad and grandfather. I’d been leery of going out to eat, worried about people whispering when I entered the restaurant. When we’d walked into the diner, the low murmur of voices came to a halt. I noticed everyone staring and would have turned around and left if Thunder hadn’t laced our fingers together.

“Figures a whore like her would end up with a bunch of filthy bikers,” someone said. Not low enough the men with me didn’t hear them. I felt Thunder tense, and my grandfather’s head turned in their direction.

Hammer and my dad both walked over to the woman who’d made the comment. Thunder led me past them to an empty table at the back near the wall. My grandfather leaned into the woman’s space, and my dad glared down at her.

“That girl you’re calling a whore was abused by her so-called parents. Those pillars of the community you have on a pedestal? They’re no better than anyone else,” Hammer said.

“Her mom wasn’t anything memorable, but my daughter?” Sam nodded his head toward me. “She’s fucking amazing.”

I heard a few gasps around the diner and people glanced my way. Yeah, my dad had just dropped a bomb on them. The pristine Helen Whitman had an affair with someone. Not just anyone. A blue-collar guy. She’d die of embarrassment right now if she knew what he’d just divulged. It wouldn’t take long before it spread through town.

“That little shit, Evan, used her. Sent out a video of an underage girl. And I know what happened during the rest of his little show.” Hammer stood and scanned the diner. “If I find out any of you were in that video, I’m coming for you. Already spent twelve years in prison. I’ve got no problem going back if it means my granddaughter has justice.”

Tears blurred my vision, and I stood. Thunder didn’t stop me as I approached my grandfather and dad. I hugged them both, feeling more loved in that moment than I had in my entire life.

“Grandpa, you shouldn’t have said that. But thank you.”

He hugged me tighter before letting me go. “Let’s get something to eat.”

We went over to the table Thunder claimed for us, and I sat beside my husband again. He kissed me, just a short, quick one. It still made me feel warm inside. I couldn’t stop smiling as I looked at the men sitting with me.

“Remind me to thank Wire and Lavender,” Thunder said. “Pretty sure I’m not topping this present. Ever.”

I giggled, but had to agree. Finding out Todd Whitman wasn’t my biological father was beyond amazing. And now I had a grandfather too? Despite everything that I’d been through, I felt happier than I’d ever been before.

I sobered a moment and stared at Hammer. “I called you Grandpa, but we’re out in public and you’re wearing your cut. Should I have called you Hammer?”

He shook his head.
