Chapter Eleven

Montoya

I was nervous as hell to meet Pharaoh’s aunt. We’d only been kicking it a few days. Although I’d been knowing him a few months, it seemed a bit premature because we’d only been on one date. True enough, he spent the night, but it was still only one date.

“You are shaking like a leaf. My aunt is good people.”

“I don’t doubt she is good people, Pharaoh. I just feel really uncomfortable meeting your whole family so soon. What if we don’t work out. What if...” Pharaoh put his finger on my lips to silence me. He then told me to take a deep breath. I did what he asked me to do.

“I don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable. If being here is too much, we can leave. It wasn’t my plan to have you meet the whole fam. But Phil decided to invite everyone today because he figured if you could hang with our family, you were a keeper. My aunt means the world to me and I respect her opinion. Every couple here has had her stamp of approval. She knew from day one that Maliah wasn’t the woman for me, but after she told me, I still stayed and ended up being heartbroken. I promised myself from now on I would always take heed to what she said. I been feeling you since the first day I saw you walking towards me. I saw the way you had a smile on your face but your eyes still held pain. I want to be the man to take that pain away, Montoya. Will you let me be that man?”

“I like you a lot, Pho Bear, I think we need to just go with the flow. I don’t wanna rush into anything only to get let down again”

“I can live with that as long as you don’t hold back because of what happened with the last nigga. I know all men say this but I’m not like the rest of these niggas out here. I really want the white picket fence with a wife and kids.” I heard what he was saying but only time would tell for real if he meant what he said.

“So where is this woman that you want me to meet?” I heard from behind. When I turned around, I saw one of the most beautiful women I’d ever seen.

“This is her right here, Auntie.” I could tell she was checking me out and it made me feel a little self-conscious because she wasn’t saying anything.

“Nice to meet you, ma’am. Pho, I mean Pharroah, has told me nothing but great things about his favorite aunt.” I reached my hand out to shake hers and she pulled me into a tight hug. I was caught off guard. She whispered in my ear something that blew my mind.

“I been waiting for you to come in his life.” She kissed my cheek and pulled away.

“Dinner is served everyone,” Phil yelled out, and everyone made their way to the kitchen to get their grub on.
