They spent the rest of the day putting me through a series of situations that were supposed to call upon my wolfish instincts. As I summoned my wolf to heighten my senses, she came easier each time. It broke my heart to realize that she sought acceptance from me as much as I did from others.
Once I had that realization, I opened my arms and wholly embraced her. Fate had made me a runt. It wasnât my, or my wolfâs, fault. All these years I thought she was what made me weak, but Iâd been wrong. She was my only source of true strength.
It was her heightened senses, quicker reflexes, and instincts that would have made surviving in this world easier. She took one whiff of these two bears and immediately liked them. She approved of Kevin, especially liking his soft, soothing voice and his intelligent eyes. The gaping age difference between us didnât bother her at all.
She took to Blake quickly as well. She enjoyed his easy smiles and rumbly chuckles. I saw him in a new light through her eyes. He was kind and caring. Asshole Blake was a distant memory at this point.
In all fairness, he was the one in charge of my daily punishment. He couldnât have been all sweet about it or that wouldnât have made any sense. Since the moment heâd seen my scars, Blake the Asshole had all but vanished.
The afternoon turned to early evening. Kevinâs last idea included playing hide and seek with a blindfold. So, without my use of sight, I navigated through the cabin, relying on my other senses to find him and Blake.
My wolfâs sense of smell was powerful enough to sniff out Blakeâs citrusy scent. I opened the pantry, amused by the thought of him trying to wedge his large body into such a tight space.
âGot you!â I reached out to tag him, but his fingers gripped my wrist and he pulled me into the pantry with him. I yelped in surprise as the door clicked shut.
âAre you sure youâve got me, or have I got you?â His sweet breath washed across my face.
âWell, youâre the one hiding and Iâm the one seeking. Soâ¦â I attempted to remove the blindfold but Blake stayed my hand.
âSo? What do your wolf senses tell you right now?â He was so close that our bodies melded together. I felt each rise and fall of his chest against mine.
Leaving the blindfold in place, I let my other senses reach out and explore. My skin prickled from being this close to him. His full, masculine scent floated up my nose and through my head. I swore I could hear the slow thud of his beating heart. He filled my entire sphere, my entire universe, in that moment. I felt a deep desire to take more of him, so I did.
Reaching up, I looped my arms around his neck and wove my fingers through his long, thick hair. With one hand, he cupped my ass and lifted.
