Thoth knew from experience that any night out with Hermes was bound to turn bizarre at some point, but the Sycamore was taking it to a whole new level.
The ruins of the temple of Hathor Aphrodite, Lady of the Sycamore, had been turned into a private club.
Marble pillars were decorated with climbing roses and tiny lights. Tall candelabras cast warm light around the lounging beds, small niches, and fake gardens. Apart from the staff moving in between tables, everyone was either leashed or holding one. The dance floor was a mosaic of the goddess, surrounded by flowers and figures of her worshippers fornicating.
Somewhat like the clientele that was engaged in worshiping the goddess by feeling each other up or flat out fucking in darkened corners.
âIt hasnât changed all that much except itâs cleaner,â Thoth commented.
âNow, keep focused and try not to act like an overwhelmed virgin, feathers,â Hermes whispered as they went to the corner of the bar.
Thoth, who had turned down invites to fuck both Hathor and Aphrodite at various times, merely rolled his eyes at Hermesâs teasing.
âRemember, you arenât here to start an orgy, Trickster. Focus on finding Anubisâs energy like you said you would,â Thoth prompted him.
âI wouldnât dare try and start an orgy. Iâm a one-woman sort of man these days. Quality over quantity,â Hermes said, sending a lascivious wink in Seleneâs direction. âYou can send your feelers out too. Youâve always known Anubis the best.â
Hermes and Selene collected their drinks and disappeared through the crowd. Kema tugged softly on the silken leash.
âThereâs a free space. Letâs sit and you can do your thing,â she suggested, leading him to a table and overstuffed velvet chair. A large flat cushion was positioned on the floor beside it.
âIâm assuming this is my spot,â she said, giving him a wink before lowering down on it.
âIâm not comfortable with any of this,â Thoth complained, sitting in the chair beside her.
âPlay along, or we will get kicked out,â Kema instructed. She made him even more uneasy by moving slowly between his legs. âYou never had slaves?â
âThere was a time when everyone wealthy in Egypt did. I never had sex slaves though. Despite Hermesâs teasing, I never needed to,â Thoth replied.
âYou shouldnât let him get to you so badly. Is there a reason he irritates you so much?â Kema wrapped an arm around his leg and rested her cheek against his thigh. Thothâs ichor heated at the touch, and he tried to focus on what she had said.
âYouâve met him, havenât you? Heâs got a smartass answer for everything. He never shuts up.â
âIs that all? I thought there was something like a competition about who was the strongest god of magic.â
Thothâs temper flared, and he tugged on the leash, pulling Kemaâs head up. His fingers cupped her chin as the proud god took over.
âLet me get one thing straight. There has never been any doubt about who has the most power between us, despite his magic golden stick.â
Kemaâs pupils were wide, but not with fear when his grip tightened.
