Chapter Eleven

Bax placed fat purple grapes into a bowl and frowned. “Should we offer her something to eat?”

“I thought we were,” Gideon said and snagged a grape.

Bax shook his head. “I mean something more substantial, like a meal.”

Gideon shook his head. “The grapes are good, and you’ve got that little tray of cheese and crackers already in there. It’s too early for dinner, anyway.”

“I guess.” Bax handed him the bowl and followed him out of the kitchen. “You’ve got the wine?”

“It’s chilling in the mini-fridge,” Gideon replied. He started down the stairs to the finished basement. “I told you that already.”

“Right.” Bax grimaced. “Sorry. I guess I’m just nervous.”

“Dude. Chill. It’s going to be fine.”

“Ever the optimist,” Bax drawled, but he grinned. “Don’t tell me you’re not nervous.”

“Sure, I am,” Gideon said as they strolled into what they referred to as the media room, named so for the giant screen TV mounted on the wall. He set the bowl of grapes down next to the pretty tray of cheese and crackers already on the wide leather ottoman. “I just handle these things better than you.”

“Right.” Bax resisted the urge to check his phone again. “You’re just more relaxed because you’ve already seen her naked.”

Gideon grinned. “And a very pleasing sight it is, too,” he said, waggling his eyebrows.

Bax snorted. “Rub it in.”

“Relax, man.” Gideon clapped him on the back. “Your turn will come.”

“That’s far from certain,” Bax told him. “And even if you’re right, I really doubt it’ll be tonight.”

“Let’s just see how it goes, okay?” Gideon perched on the end of the couch. “We promised her a ‘no pressure’ evening, and that’s what we’ll give her. We make it clear that she’s in charge.”

“Agreed,” Bax said. He walked over to the small wet bar to pull the wine out of the fridge and dig out a corkscrew. “No matter what.”

He poured the golden liquid into two glasses, and handed one to his best friend, and lifted his own. “To a very frustrating evening.”

Gideon’s laugh almost drowned out the chime of the front doorbell.
