Saturday, the day after that terrible event, I chose to stay home instead of going to Laura’s because I was too sick, emotionally and physically. My cramps were raging and I was so shook up over what happened, so my darling baby, Angelina, came over to take care of me. Immediately after it happened I phoned her and told her all about it, she left work early and came to my side immediately. We did a switch-a-roo for once; she woke up early and prepared a big breakfast for the two of us. After I ate and showered she nurtured me by rubbing my whole body down and deep massaging my bloated stomach while telling me how amazing I am, and reassuring me that one day I am going to have all that I want including the house by the beach.

“Babe, in all that you go through, God is constantly showing you that he loves you, and you have a specific purpose,” she said softly.

“You are blessed and no maniac can ever take that away from you,” she added.

“Do not be dismayed, but be encouraged and inspired, continue to live your life, Babe,” Angelina said and then she kissed my forehead, my nose, and then my lips.

Then my phone rang.

“Babe, please answer that for me, “I instructed.

“Good morning,” Angelina answered and then half a second later she said, “Sure, just a second.”

She passed me the phone but I did not reach for it, instead I asked,

“Babe, who is that?”

She covered the mouth-piece with her hand and whispered, “Your sister, she said ‘Hello, this is Ashanti’s sister may I please speak to her’ “

“I told her ass to never use my phone number again,” I sighed.

I took the phone from Angelina, I looked at the screen, and then I hung up on her.

Angelina gasped for air,

“Now, hunni that was too rude, I can’t believe you just did that,” she said.

“Angie, you do not understand babe, I have nothing to say to my sister.”

She looked so disappointed, “I thought we had this conversation already babe. “

“We did, but I am not ready to kumbaya yet,” I said.

Angelina looked me dead in my eye, “I really hope you don’t regret this wasted time one day.”

The phone rang again, but I did not budge.

“Answer it, please babe, please,” Angelina pleaded and so I did, but only for her.

“What’s up?” I answered.

“Hello twin, how are you?” Egypt responded.

“What’s up?” I asked again.

I heard her take a deep breath on the other end. “I have some bad news for you,” she said.

“That is?”

“Mom is sick,” she revealed.

I said nothing, I just listened.

“She was diagnosed with cervical cancer last week, she asked dad to not say anything to you or myself, but I overheard a conversation she had with Auntie Jone, I heard her say she begins chemo therapy next week,” she informed me.

“Okay Egypt, and you call to tell me this because?” I truly wanted to know the answer.

“Wow Ashanti,” she said in disbelief of my reaction.
