5. Sadly, the First Lady of Wrestling Has Died (So Let's Exploit Her): On May 1, 2003, the wrestling world lost one of its true female pioneers, Miss Elizabeth. Since Liz had died of a combination of painkillers and alcohol, this meant but one thing - WWE's sorta-shoot, mostly-BS program Confidential had one heck of an exploitation story on its hands. The fact that her boyfriend was former superstar Lex Luger (who Vince had heat with from way back) only sweetened the deal. And sure enough, fans at home were treated to the desperate 911 calls from Luger, as he had attempted to save Liz's life. WWE dragged the investigative Liz story out over the course of two weeks, and it seemed less like WWE Confidential and more like CSI: Stamford. In closing, Vince concluded that the downfall of Elizabeth was that in her time in WCW, she didn't have a family-like atmosphere to guide her away from the path to self-destruction. This would be in stark contrast, of course, to WWE, a truly caring environment in which male wrestlers were known to defecate in female performers' luggage.
