Chapter 12

Accused

“THIS IS YOUR FAULT!” I scream, rushing toward Caz. “You’re a traitor! You’re probably setting us all up. I knew it was a mistake to let my guard down for you after you fucked with me in the Mortal World. You’re a bastard, Caz! A fucking asshole!”

I race toward him, expecting him to run away like the coward he is, but he straightens his back and prepares for my attack. Two warm hands latch to my sides and yank me off my feet. I smack into Bastien’s chest, his strong hug locking me against his muscular body. I bend forward, throwing off his center of gravity enough to flip him onto his back.

I don’t make it far.

Snagging my ankle, Bastien trips me, sending me sprawling on top of him. He huffs a breath at the force of my fall but manages to drag me back as I attempt to launch toward Caz again. My knees hit the ground on the sides of his head, and I sit on his face, surprising him enough to loosen his hold. The scent of my passion with Sterling probably still clings to my body, throwing his senses into mating mode or whatever. At least it’s one advantage to the nearing of my season.

If only Sagan didn’t snatch me away before I throw myself at Caz and punch his fucking cock.

“Stop intervening!” I yell, bucking my body. “That’s a command. I don’t want to hurt you.”

“Don’t let her go,” Dax says to Sagan, his voice rumbling with a growl. “Same for you, Bastien. Keep Sterling back. The both of them are still coming down from her claim. They won’t be thinking straight.”

It’s now that I realize Bastien pins Sterling to the ground. He must’ve been trying to help me get to Caz, feeling the hot emotions coursing through me. I know they affect Dax and Sagan more intently, but they’ve had a chance to learn to handle them in the last few weeks. Sterling hasn’t.

“Caz, tell us what the fuck is going on,” Dax adds, strolling around me to block my view of Caz. His muscular body ripples with his flexing muscles, his tall form towering over Caz and his bastardly pouty face like I’m the one who wronged him.

“He’s a traitor, is what happened,” I say, trying to keep my body from attacking Sagan in the process. I’m furious but not at him. “I saw him during the last game. He was with the pack leaders’ mates, and they were strategizing rigging the games. He’s been playing us. He was instructed to get me in line.”

Caz’s serious expression softens with his wide eyes. He takes an automatic step back at my accusation, looking scared as hell and ready to flee like the coward he is. He was afraid to face me upon my arrival, and he’s terrified to face me now. And he should be.

Bastien releases a low growl. “You better explain yourself, Caz. What is she talking about?”

Caz clenches his fingers into his palms.
