Chapter 7

We were having breakfast early on the morning of Halloween so we could fulfill our promise to Pierre Lamy to meet him at the cemetery at nine sharp. My phone rang. It was Lamy calling once again in a state of panic. He could barely get his words out.

He calmed a little when I assured him we were on our way and said, “It’s worse, much worse, Madame Munro. You must hurry.”

I asked him what had happened, but he said he couldn’t talk about it on the phone.

“Hurry. Just hurry, please,” he finished, ending the call.

“More trouble?” asked Felix.

“Sounds like it. We have to leave now. Immediately.”

“But I’m still drinking my coffee, boss,” Felix complained.

“It’ll keep,” I said prying his mug out of his hand and clunking it down on the counter.

As we flew through the front door, Gwinny came down the stairs with Jimbo in tow. “Where are you off to so early?”

“Sorry, can’t stop. I’ll let you know when we’ll be home when I find out what’s going on,” I called back, hurrying over the cobbled street to the car.

“Where?” Gwinny shouted.

Felix shouted back, “The cemetery.”

“Be very, very careful, you two. It’s Halloween. There are evil spirits about making mischief.”
