Chapter Eleven – The Warrior Princess

The stream of fire screamed down into the hole Viritania had carved into the earth with her chaos energy. Matilom disappeared underneath the fiery blanket. Viritania, wings flapping, landed gently. She looked at the plume of smoke billowing upwards from the wide flaming tongues of fire that licked at the surface of the earth, just over the rectangular hole they emanated from. She let out a satisfied smile and turned towards a weakened and yet enraged Sam.

“Y… you are a… monster…” Sam said, the stress of speaking visible on his face.

“And you are my prey.” Viritania said, smiling as she sauntered towards him.

She pulled out her sword and held it high above his heart.

“To be killed by a principal. Consider it the greatest honor.”

Her sword came down and there was a splatter of blood, followed by what sounded like the grating of iron against iron.

“You really are an annoying guardian.” Viritania said, tilting her head to glance over her shoulder.

“Thank you for the compliment.” Max said, his right hand holding onto the dagger he had buried in her back. Slumped over his left shoulder was Sam. Max retrieved the dagger and stepped through a portal, just in time to avoid getting slammed into by Viritania’s tail. He stepped out beside Vannera who held onto a weak and wheezing Matilom.

“It’s okay now. We will face her. You rest.” Vannera said.

Viritania laughed.

“You speak as if you are assured of victory.” Her gaze glided over the four of them. “The only thing that awaits you all is death.”

With that, she sauntered forward.

“I will take the lead.” Max said. “I hope you use the openings you get well. Be watchful.”

“I will. And be careful, Max.” Vannera responded.

Max nodded and was off in Viritania’s direction. Vannera turned around and her gaze fell on Matilom who cradled a very pale Sam.

“He is dying, isn’t he?” Vannera asked, the worry and fear creeping into her voice.

“All hope is not lost.” Matilom said weakly. “Kill the principal, Vannera. Kill her.”

“I intend to.” Vannera said. And with that, she too was off.

Max’s speed and agility were a sight to behold indeed. Unfortunately, so was the principal Viritania’s. Max opened up multiple portals, attacking from various directions and yet Viritania parried and evaded with nimble movements of her torso, feet and hands. Max opened up a portal above her and came down quickly with his dagger. Viritania brought up her sword and a loud clang could be heard, as one metal blade slammed into another. A large stream of fire hurtled out of Viritania’s mouth, straight at Max. He was already gone and behind her, his dagger coming in for another stab. Her tail slammed into his back and he was gone before the full force of the impact could permeate through his body. Max materialized a few paces in front of her and quickly hopped back and out of the way of her downward sword slash. A portal opened up to her right and Max’s right leg popped out, slamming into her face.
