Chapter 23

David

Abington Senior High School - Abington, Pa

May 16th, 10:50 AM

It was a warm, sunny morning when Ted and I left his home and began our trek to the most important day so far since this nightmare began for us, and so many people who were suffering since April 14. With the bright morning sun that came in made us constantly adjust the sun visors on Ted's Ford F-150, which didn't allow us to fully see what awaited us as drove early into the Abington Senior High parking lot. The high school, which hosted the town hall meeting, was about five miles from Ted's house. What the bright sun initially blinded us from was a sea of media trucks, more than I had ever seen in my life, most of them were from local counties outside of Philly. But we noticed that there were many national affiliates were present, like CNN, FOX, and MSNBC. We wanted to make sure the entire country—no, the entire world would hear our story. Strategically placed throughout the gym were several dozen officers from all over Montgomery County. I wouldn't have been surprised if plainclothes officers were scattered amongst us as well. With their strong show of force, they were ready if anything got out of hand. The fact that they are concerned with people being pissed off in the first place should tell the powers that be how wrong they are in this entire endeavor.

As we got down to the seating area, we quickly realized that we weren't the only ones who had the idea of getting here early. The first three rows were already filled with about fifty people. It was difficult to tell who was seated with whom or what individuals knew one another. Most seemed to pretty much kept to themselves. But, if you listened carefully, filtering out the background noise of various chatter, you could overhear the stories of the atrocities their loved ones trapped inside of Philadelphia had conveyed to them. Of course, this is when they had communication before the connections were severed. Some of the
