​​2001: Comparing dobutamine and milrinone demonstrated similar effects on the cardiac index, pulmonary capillary wedge pressure, and MAP.8 However, dobutamine was associated with more hypertension and atrial fibrillation, while milrinone had more incidences of bradycardia. This study on inotropes for cardiogenic shock is highlighted in the Cochrane Review.9

​​2018: An RCT including patients with mitral stenosis and pulmonary hypertension undergoing mitral valve replacement compared milrinone with a combination of dobutamine and nitroglycerin.10 Milrinone demonstrated superior efficacy in reducing mean pulmonary artery pressure and pulmonary capillary wedge pressure.
