‘Did you find it?’

She nodded while walking down the hall towards the front door. ‘Yeah, I did, ta. I’m going to stick it straight in the boot of the car. I’ll be back with you in two minutes.’

‘Okay, leave the door open. The baby’s wide awake now anyway.’

‘Is there anything else I need to know before I make a move?’

Lucy unbuttoned her blouse, took the dummy from the baby’s mouth and encouraged her to suckle on the exposed nipple. ‘Fuck all I can think of.’

‘Is there anyone you want me to call for you? A relative or a friend maybe?’

She shook her head, screwing up her face. ‘There isn’t anybody. It’s just me and the kids now. He made sure of that.’

‘Can I get you a cup of something before I head off? I’m in no rush. It’s no bother.’

‘Sharing a cup of tea with a fucking pig, who’d have thought it? Yeah, why not? Tea, a splash of milk and one sugar for me. And there’s half a packet of choccy biccies on top of the fridge, if you fancy one.’
