62. The Duke of Clarence allegedly was killed in the Tower by being drowned in a butt of Malmsey wine, in 1478. This imagined reconstruction was drawn in the 1880s.

63. The White Tower drawn by Hanslip Fletcher in 1920, in what was assumed to be its original form, after the later accretions had been removed during the second half of the nineteenth century.

64. The Tower was given its familiar concentric form by the early fourteenth century and is shown on Anthonis van den Wyngaerde’s pen-and-ink drawing of c. 1544.
