Chapter Forty-One

From the brief set of directions that Bep gave Paris, she was able to find the back alley and the entrance to the Psychic Super Store. She should’ve expected the thick smell of incense when she entered the shop filled with Buddha statues and cases filled with crystals.

The store was super with a multitude of products lining the shelves. From where she stood at the front of the shop, it looked like it went on and on with multiple different rooms.

Paris read a signpost that pointed in different directions, with labels attached to each one.

“Angel Center, Crystal Corner, Buddha Retreat, Sage Section…” Paris suppressed a laugh. “Where’s the Soul Cleansing section?”

“It’s in the back, past the candles,” an airy voice said at Paris’ back.

She whipped around, not having heard anyone behind her. A woman with long flowing curls and wearing loose linen stood in front of the entrance that she’d come through—a serene expression on her face.

“Are you Jackey?” Paris asked, not having seen anyone else in the store.

“I am,” she answered plainly.

“And you’re a psychic?” Paris questioned, having to ask.

“I am,” she repeated.

“Cool, then you know that I was coming here and what I need then. That will save me time.”

Jackey pressed her hands together in front of her like she was praying. “As a psychic, I’m not granted information about all events or people, only when I’m directing my energy into another person’s.”

“Right.” Paris drew out the word and noted that her mother and aunt would probably have run from this store, unwilling to put up with the hippie. Paris had a mission and would have to endure the hippie psychic to get what she needed.

“By the way, what’s the difference between a psychic and seer?” Paris had to ask since she knew people like Trudy DeVries didn’t publicize that they could see the future since others often persecuted them for it. That reminded her that when she wasn’t tracking down cold medicine for Brownies and crystals for potions experts, she needed to visit the Great Library.

“The difference is that a seer is gifted with prophecies, which usually include events of great magnitude,” Jackey answered. “Conversely, a psychic has extrasensory abilities that allow us to do various things like see auras, have clairvoyance, or telepathy. My psychic powers tell me that you’d like to have your aura read.”

“Unfortunately, although I would have, all my money is to be devoted to what I came to buy,” Paris said, not wanting to offend the woman and tell her she was wrong.

“Well for a customer purchasing other items, the aura reading is free.”

“Thanks, but again, I’m sort of in a hurry,” Paris stated. She might have a full hour, but she could use that time to find King Rudolf or grab a cup of coffee. “I’m looking for copper rod thingies, although I don’t know their specific name or if they have one. Can you help me with that?”

The woman put her hand to her head, closing her eyes. “And my psychic intuition tells me that you need these because you’re trying to find a spirit.
