Chapter 16
Vicky
I spent my first month of college making out with Liam a lot. It was our first taste of living together, even though we werenât officially living together. He lived off campus in a house share with three other guys from the hockey team. My dorm room was merely a storage space for my extra clothes and belongings. I spent every single night with Liam. We were making up for lost time. We were inseparable.
I enjoyed my classes, and I enjoyed the routine weâd gotten ourselves into. My favourite thing, however, was watching Liam play hockey. It brought forth nostalgic thoughts, yet allowed me to live in the present, and I felt like me again.
I remember the first of his hockey games which I attended in my freshman year. As soon as the final buzzer sounded, I made my way to the dressing rooms as pre-agreed with Liam. And as I stood outside waiting for him, I couldnât help but feel out of place. As a newcomer, I received contemptuous looks from some sophomore girls.
âWho are you waiting for?â one girl had asked me. I hadnât seen her around campus before, but she was clearly a veteran in dressing room loitering. I was wearing Liamâs away sweater, and I caught her studying the sleeve. âLiam Preston?â I recall her jaw droppingâliterally. âHow did you get that jersey?â
Before I could answer, Liam cut through the crowd and dropped his gear, the dull thud catching the attention of people surrounding us. He pulled me into his arms and lifted me into the air, spinning me around. It felt like we had the tunnel all to ourselves.
It was the start of college life for us, and we were completely consumed by each other as we went about our days. Heâd even get up for morning practice or dryland before coming back to bed, pulling me into him and spooning me until we absolutely had to go to class.
Things were perfect. He was perfect. We were perfect.
âIâm going to marry you one day, Vic,â heâd told me one morning. He was looking into my eyesâstill inside me, if I remember correctly.
Initially, I thought it was post-orgasm crap, but he repeated it a few days later while I was doing the dishes after dinner. Heâd wrapped his arms around my waist and kissed my neck before whispering into my ear.
âWould you take my name? Or keep yours?â he said, his chin resting on my shoulder.
I didnât have to think twice. Iâd been writing âMrs Victoria Prestonâ on all my damn notebooks ever since I met him. No scrap thatâever since I first saw him and found out his name.
âI dislike my dad, so what do you think?â Iâd turned around and grinned, then Iâd kissed him. The reality was, it had nothing to do with me disliking my dad, but rather everything to do with being his wife.
âI think I fucking love you,â heâd replied, wrapping himself around me and planting kisses along my neck.
