The figure waited for her on the small plot of rocky land. A smile still set perfectly on her face.

“So?” She inquired quickly.

“Aidoneus is not happy with Thanatos.”

“I thought not.” She smirked, turning back to the water. Her demeanor was calm, unlike the feeling she had in the dream that night. She had been angry then, and vengeful. Whispering a single word into Kore’s ear before she woke.

“Persephone.” Kore whispered, recalling the word. The figure turned, her lips pressed.

“Hm?” She hummed.

“Persephone. I heard it that night at the tree. What is it?”

“It is a word.” The figure shrugged, “It means ‘Bringer of destruction.’”

“Bringer of destruction?” Kore echoed.

“Yes. We destroyed a village.” She added nonchalantly.

“You destroyed a village.” Kore corrected.

“If you say so.” The figure shrugged again, turning back to the water. She seemed to be waiting for something unseen. Kore sat and slipped her bare feet into the water. It was cool as it lapped against her legs.

The figure took the spot beside her, and they quietly gazed out over the water together. Kore growing a slight understanding for the shadow that had haunted her. A shadow that wasn’t truly a shadow – it was her – Kore. The darkness she had kept away, just as the figure claimed.
