“Born in 1808, Butler Country Kentucky.”

“What?”

“I told you. He was a vampire. He was bit when he was 27 years old in 1835.”

“That’s bizarre,” I said. But I was on the verge of believing. “How do you know this stuff?”

“Because,” he looked at me as if to ask if I was sure I wanted to hear. “He was my sire.”

I let out a laugh that sounded more like a bark. “So you’re my brother?”

“Naw,” he said. “He was my maker, not my real father.”
