Souvenir Film

On the second-to-last night of the tour, at Sheffield’s City Hall on March 19, soundman Grant Showbiz shot footage of the band at soundcheck, during their time backstage, and onstage. The film was designed to be a souvenir for the group and their road crew and featured the Smiths playing nine full songs and an instrumental. According to fan site Passions Just like Mine, it also included footage of the Smiths performing “What Difference Does It Make?” on Top of the Pops, plus a clip of support band the Telephone Boxes. Scenes of Marr giving Morrissey a guitar lesson, and of the singer dancing onstage, were also included in the movie, which was shown at a February 1997 “Smiths Convention” held in Pasadena, California. In March 2001, it was webcast by the now defunct www.deo.com to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Rough Trade Records.
