“You’re going to be a big help in J.C.’s defense, Jo.

I appreciate everything you’ve told me.”

She smiled. “I only regret not being around much for the past few years, but it wasn’t easy for me when we ended our relationship, even though we knew we’d always be friends.”

J.C. grabbed her hand. “But we managed to remain even better friends now.”

Jo smiled at her. “And that’s something that can never be destroyed.”

“In any event, Jo,” Zachary said, “I know that you’re a positive influence on J.C.”

“Thank you.”

Zachary closed his notebook and placed it into his briefcase. “I’ll be in touch, Jo, and thanks again for your help.”

“Any time.” She stood up. “I’d better be going if I’m going to make the meeting tonight.” She looked at J.C. “Do you want to get some dinner before we go? I can go change and pick you up in an hour.”

“Sounds great,” she answered. “I’ll walk you out.”
