They went on, setting up and breaking down the tent, moving on to yet another blank signboard. So the morning when the man announced, "One more to go," the boy said, "One more what?" The man laughed.

But a wind came up, and they were caught in a raging dust storm. They rolled up the windows and spent the night sitting up in the truck.

Sometime before dawn the wind died. The man turned the ignition, and as the engine sputtered to life, they sighed with relief. But when the last billboard came into sight, they rubbed their blurry eyes. Only the skeleton of it was left standing. The panels had been blown away and were nowhere to be seen.

"I don't know if we can fix this," he grumbled.

The boy looked off toward the horizon.
