MYRA
Myra nestled into the cushions and pillows laid out in her and Alvisâs usual spot in the library as she delved further into a book about Rayâs magic. Sheâd come up with a theory that if Alvis could make the room holding the mirror warm and dry enough, it could dry up any water magic Amelia could summon. Already theyâd frozen the area directly surrounding the mirror, so it encased the mirror even more. Still, they both were concerned that if Amelia and whoever she was partnered with were patient enough, they could melt the ice. They could surround the area with fire, but Ameliaâs water could put that out. If there was a way the air was so dry it would evaporate and quench Ameliaâs water, it was a possibility. Amelia put so much reliance on her magic, it would greatly debilitate her and slow her down if she ever were to escape. Theyâd already attempted to put a ring of fire around the area, but it melted the ice.
To her side, Alvis had also made himself comfortable as he studied his own book, but she couldnât tell what it was about. He reclined against the pillows with one leg extended out in front of him, the other bent and propping up the book. Their evenings in the library were the most relaxed and content Myra had ever seen himâfar more than he ever was during the events for the pageant.
Any of the stiff awkwardness present the first time sheâd met him in the library had faded away over the last couple of weeks, and this now was Myraâs favorite time of day. No one bothered them there. Not even Ramin, unless they had something to discuss with him. While here and there the air would chill when he was present, for the most part he left them alone.
A sighâmaybe of contentmentâescaped from Alvisâs lips as he sank deeper into the pillows. His wavy brown locks fell into his eyes, and with a casual hand, he brushed it away. Myra couldnât help but grin. The prince rarely ever had a moment where he wasnât completely put together, including his hair. He was always the picture of refinement and excellency.
Except for that day early on when a paint fight broke out during an activity. Sheâd never seen him laugh and have fun like that before, and how he ran and chased and played with Nell warmed her heart. Then when he chased her down, the paint making his clothes stick to his body like a second skin⦠She couldnât help but admit sheâd wished no one else was around because there were a few things sheâd like to do with him when he caught her.
His golden gaze darted away from his book to hers. âWhat?â
Myra blinked and flipped through the pages of his book. Heâd caught her staring. She didnât mean to be. She was sure her face was turning pink as though he could read her thoughts. âI was wondering if youâd found anything new we could use.
