Jex had found the answer rather odd but fitting with Mrs. Wickersham’s personality. It was a bit quaint for her to speak of honeybees as members of her family, which was what he’d always remember when he thought of the old woman.

Over the next few weeks, Jex recalled the conversations many times, but he had no clear answers regarding the events that had occurred when Michael Wickersham was killed. He followed through on Mrs. Wickersham’s request and phoned Dewey Zellner, the town’s mechanic, who showed up with a large truck and trailer to haul away the old freezer.

They enjoyed the summer, meeting many new people who stayed at the inn and more memories of wonderful times were ingrained in Jex’s heart, most of them with the chief by his side. Eventually, the darkness of the events Mrs. Wickersham had explained faded. To Jex, they just weren’t relevant any longer because he’d finally found his place in the world.

Jex loved Eli Moore, and he could see himself staying in Haven’s Point for as long as he was welcome. Based on Mrs. Wickersham’s confession, Chief Moore Senior might have turned a blind eye to a murder, but the man wasn’t responsible for the way the events had taken place.

It seemed the former Chief did what he thought would bring the woman the least amount of grief. Maybe it was all for the best that the events of that night should remain a secret? Jex swore he would be like the bees. He’d never tell a soul.
