When preparing for a job interview, remember that not all the questions will relate directly to the position you are interviewing for; some will be asked to help the employers get more information on who you are as a person and what interests you have outside of work.
When asking about your hobbies, for instance, employers could be interested in knowing your overall energy levels and health status to gauge how you might engage with clients and coworkers. For instance, saying that you love soccer may attract favor from an employer who is seeking a real team player. Others ask the question to get a sense of your ability to balance work and personal life. They want to know if outside of work you engage in activities that might interfere with your ability to get tasks done at work.
Therefore, think in advance of an appropriate hobby, perhaps one that makes you relax or have fun. Make a list of things you do with your family and friends, and even any volunteer activities that you engage in. Cross-check with the job listing and from the company website to learn about their culture. Then have one or two hobbies that resonate with the characteristics that the organization is seeking in employees.
For instance, sports such as golf and tennis indicate your ability to connect with clients and build relationships. However, do not brag and then have no idea about the sport when you are on the driving range with your new boss.
“Why are you interested in working for this company?”
