Chapter Twenty

During the evening meal, Dilawar had managed to sneak upstairs and check the rucksack which contained the two bombs in the water bottles. Both seemed to be okay, so he replaced them and quickly returned to the meal. It never occurred to him that he wouldn’t know if there was anything wrong with them. Ignorance is bliss. He sat down quickly at the table and was happy that no one had missed him while he was away. Dilawar, much to his surprise, ate well that night and had a bit of banter with his friends at the table before they all moved upstairs to go to bed. Although he didn’t think he would, Dilawar slept deeply that night and awoke the next morning ready for the final stage of the journey.

Once he’d had his breakfast and packed his clothes, Dilawar walked down the stairs and out of the front door to wait for his friend, Zaigham. He’d done this deliberately so that he could do a Snapchat message to Mustafa Younin where no one would see him. The message read: Setting off for Cologne. End in sight.
