A thrill shoots down my spine when Scott’s palm anchors in the center of my back. Is it supposed to feel this way? The zip of excitement and rush of shivers from just his proximity, the scent of his cologne, the knowing that he’s standing behind me?

Or am I just drunk?

I hiccup and snort and decide it’s probably a mixture of both.

“How you holding up?” His breath skates across my collarbone and his tone, rumbly and sexy as hell, causes my abdomen to tighten.

I turn into him and his arm wraps around my middle, effortlessly, like two people in the middle of a dance where they both know the steps. Do we know the steps? Are we skipping all the awkward moments, the stepping on feet and not knowing where to place our hands? Is our connection that intuitive?

“I want you to take me home now,” I whisper back, loving the way his eyes widen at the not-so-subtle message I deliver.

The green in his gaze darkens, less tropical rain forest and more mysterious wilderness. Even that sends a rush of heat through me, and I melt into his frame. His arms secure me fully and I press a kiss to the underside of his jaw, the tip of my tongue flicking out.

Scott laughs lightly, probably wondering why the hell I’m going all in on the PDA, but right now, I don’t care about the repercussions. I’m an adult, an independent and capable woman who can certainly make my own choices about my love life.

“After you, sweetheart.” Scott gestures toward the door.

I flash him a grin, catching my almost-stumble, as we turn to say our goodbyes. Scott leaves me in the warm embraces of the BHH girls while he grabs our coats.

“Thanks for coming out tonight.” Indy hugs me.

“Thank you. And congrats,” I say quietly.

She gives me another squeeze and then Abbi and Chloe are both hugging me from the sides.

“Get it, girl,” Abbi jokes as Scott reappears, looking so effortlessly hot that I have to stifle my moan.

“No more tequila.” I wag a finger at Panda.

“No promises,” he quips back. He kisses my cheek and shakes Scott’s hand. “Get home safely.”

“Good game today,” Scott tells him, and he grins.

After a few more waves and well-wishes, Scott bundles me into his car and drives us back to his place. During the drive, I shiver and he readjusts the heat, glancing at me.

“You okay?”

I nod, giving him a lazy smile. “More than okay. I had fun today.”

“Me too.” He says it like he’s surprised by the admission.

I chuckle. “Don’t you usually like watching the Hawks win?”

“Of course.” He reaches over, his hand resting on my thigh. “But it was…different today. I had fun.” He gives me another look. “And I’m glad the cupcakes were a success.”

“Yeah,” I agree. “That felt like a big win. I mean, I know I wouldn’t have gotten the chance if—”

“Don’t say that,” he cuts me off. “You’re a hard worker, Noelle. You have a great product and solid marketing and the personality to pull off introductions all on your own.
