“Where the hell is she?” I yell in Abbott’s face, fear settling in the deepest part of my body.

“Did you hear what I said?” He leans against my kitchen counter, holding a package of frozen peas on his knuckles. “She’s married. And I have a hard time believing that Mr. Fucking Perfect is willingly screwing another man’s wife.”

“She’s divorced.”

“The bastard called her his wife.”

“He was lying—”

“Or you’re still too damn trusting.”

I drag my fingers through my hair, pulling at it, needing something to do with my hands so I don’t throttle him.

“I know you thinking you’re protecting me—”

“I am.”

“No. You’re putting Sophie in danger. Now, tell me where you took her.”

He shakes his head at me. “She’s probably already gone.”

“Gone where?” When he doesn’t answer, I growl out, “Goddamn it, Abbott. Gone where?”

“If you know what’s good for you, you’ll let her leave.”

“You have no fucking idea what you’re talking about. Sophie is what’s good for me.”

I’d tossed and turned all night, knowing I’d made the biggest mistake of my life walking out of her apartment last night.

I have to fight for her.

Because...I love her. And I was wrong when I’d said I didn’t know her. I knew everything that mattered. I knew her heart.

“I love her, Abbott.”

His lips twist. “Right, because what you need is some chick with a crazy motherfucker stalking her.” He tosses his hands up and looks at me like I’ve lost my mind. “Even if he’s not her husband, he’s still dangerous. And you barely know her. Let her go before you get hurt. Before Lola gets hurt.”

“The only thing that will hurt Lola is Sophie leaving.”

“Too late for that. I told her to go.”

Anger rages inside me. “I swear to God, if she leaves town because of you—”

“If she leaves town now, she would have eventually, anyway. I’m trying to help you.”

“Help yourself before you start messing around in my life.”

I push past him, slamming my front door and stalking towards my truck.

I need to find her before she takes off. I can’t lose her. God, what if the man had found her again?

If anything happens to her, I’ll kill Abbott.

I call Damon’s cell, blurting out when he answers, “Sophie’s gone, and I think she might be in trouble.”

There’s silence, then he says evenly, “She’s in the car with me.”

Thank fucking God.

“I’m just taking her back to the apartment to collect her things.”

Collect her things.

She’s leaving.

“Don’t you dare let her go until I get there.”

“Kade—”

I hang up on him and speed through town, my heart beating in my ears.

Just let her leave, that dark voice taunts. You’ll lose her eventually, anyway.

Bullshit. I just started to fucking feel again. Started to open my heart. I can’t, won’t, lose her now. I need to get past my damn insecurities and fight for her. Even if she’s not willing to fight for me.

At Savages and Saints, I take the stairs two at a time up to her apartment, banging on the door until Damon opens it. His eyes are hard when he meets my gaze.
