Nok Air flies to Chumphon from Bangkok’s Don Muang Airport (3 daily; 1hr). It’s possible to buy a combination ticket from Nok all the way through to Ko Tao, or you can take an a/c minibus from the airport, which is 40km to the north, to town (B150/person, bookable through Salsa Hostel, for example); a taxi will set you back around B800.

BY TRAIN

Chumphon train station is on the northwest edge of town, less than a 10min walk from most guesthouses and hotels.

Destinations Bangkok (10 daily to Hualamphong, 2 to Thonburi; 7hr–9hr 30min); Butterworth (Malaysia; 1 daily; 14hr); Nakhon Si Thammarat (2 daily; 7hr); Surat Thani (11 daily; 2hr 5min–4hr); Trang (2 daily; 7hr).
