Flat Tire: Change It

Changing a flat tire can be stressful, even if you’ve done it before. It may be that you’ve popped a tire or possibly just have been leaking air and it’s nearly flat. Either situation is unsafe. Here is the simplest process to fix it:

1. Pull over to a safe, flat area with hard ground

2. Set up reflectors or flares to alert other drivers to your presence outside your car

3. Place jack under vehicle, feeling first for the solid frame, not the door or the bumper

4. Jack up the vehicle high enough to see that the tire is off the ground

5. Remove lug nuts with tire iron (may be a part of the jack system)

6. Remove tire and replace with spare

7. Tighten all lug nuts

8. Place flat tire in spare compartment

9. Drive with caution to get a new tire
