CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

The next morning I woke up with a groan, and I felt a hand on my chest. I opened my eyes and it was Sue.

With a sleepy smile, I said, “Hey.”

“Hey, yourself. How are you feeling?”

I went to sit up and winced. “Like a truck hit me and then for good measure, backed up and ran me over again.”

She nodded and smiled. “I’m sure. Linda is downstairs making porridge.”

Impressed, I lifted a brow. “She’s cooking again?”

Sue laughed and nodded. “Ever since you praised her last meal, she has taken to cooking more. Though, porridge you can’t screw up.”

“Oh, trust me,” I snorted. “You can. I had a roommate once who made it so thick you could have used it as plaster.”

Sue smiled. “True. Frank and Precila are out. So it’s just the three of us. Want to get ready and come down? I’ll make sure that your coffee is ready.”

I looked at the white-haired beauty and smiled. She was amazing. She and Linda were so different that I was surprised they got along so well. Though admittedly, I think Sue’s down-to-earth attitude brought Linda’s hyperactive demeanor down. No, not down. Sue helped Linda offset that energy. They got along like sisters. Even though Precila and Sue had been friends before I met her, Linda and she now were as close as well, sister wives.

“What?” she asked, cocking a head sideways at my intense gaze.

“Nothing,” I smiled. “I just can’t believe I have two amazing women like you in my life.”

Sue blushed. “I have to admit. I never thought I would find such a caring, loving, and strong man in my own life. Most of the men I’ve met have been wasters. Did you know my last date before you, I had to get a restraining order on him?”

My eyebrows might have met my hairline. “What?”

She snorted. “Some men won’t take no for an answer. I used to work with him in the office when I started working for Precila’s parents. He asked me out after we went to a team dinner, and I thought he was a nice person.” She scowled. “Apparently, he wasn’t. I ended up beating the shit out of him.”

“I assume he wasn’t a Super?”

“Oh, he was,” she smirked. “But I had taken self-defense classes when I was in university. The problem was, instead of making him stay away from me, he went after me even more after that. Or, as he said in court, it was a courtship of pain and love.”

I snorted. “He said that in court?”

She nodded and snorted as well. “Yes, and the judge took one look at him, wrote the order and told him that if he stepped within 100 feet of me, he would be arrested. He did that the next day. I walked out of my apartment and he was standing there with flowers. I called SA since he was a Super, and they came and got him.”

Curious, I asked her, “What was his Super Power?”

“He could stretch his arms,” she said with a visible shiver.
