Despite dealing with the ghosts being a top priority for Naomi, she was still able to get through her classes without her fear affecting her. But by the end of the day, she was drained. She sat back in her chair, staring at the empty classroom and mentally prepared for another long visit to the library. Before she could leave, though, she was interrupted by someone she didn’t want to see.

“Hey, Naomi,” Sebastian said as he stepped into the classroom. “Can we talk?”

Naomi looked at him skeptically. The last thing she wanted to do was face his doubt in her. She didn’t need that right now. She had enough to deal with as is. She needed all the support she could get.

The way he looked at her, though, seemed genuine. He seemed like he was ready to listen to her. It seemed like he was truly sorry.

“I was a jerk,” he admitted. “I discounted your feelings, I didn’t take you seriously, and I responded to everything in a terrible way. I should’ve been way more understanding and kinder about the whole thing.

Naomi considered his apology. He did seem genuine. He was saying all the right things. And she didn’t want to be alone. She wanted his help.

“Thank you,” she said, though it hurt her pride to say it. “I do appreciate that, and I guess I understand to some extent why you reacted the way you did. I wasn’t exactly super open to believing Aziel when he told me about the ghost, either. It’s a hard thing to fathom.”

“You dealt with it better than I did, though,” Sebastian replied. “At least based on what you told me, it sounds like you dealt with it how anyone should react to such an admission, even if they don’t believe in whatever someone is telling them.

“I should’ve listened to you and learned my lesson from that. You told me pretty much how I should respond, and I didn’t take that into consideration. I’m sorry for that.”

“It’s okay,” she assured him. “I appreciate you apologizing now. People can’t be perfect all the time. It means a lot to me that you see it and are willing to look at things in a different light.”

“I’m more than willing,” Sebastian said. “I want to be a better friend to you. I’m going to prove that. I was thinking, to
