Chapter 14

Danielle

I catch myself grinning as I get ready for work. I’m so happy, I can’t believe it. I’ve gone from having nothing on the horizon to having not one but three fantastic men in my life. My job’s going great. It’s still challenging everyday but in a good way. I learn new things all the time. And working with my guys means I get to spend even more time with them than I would otherwise.

I’ve even stopped resisting my alarm in the morning. Now that I’m earning money again, I was able to get some nicer outfits and higher-end makeup. Dragging myself out of bed is officially worth it. My life has started to run so smoothly, I worry sometimes that I’ll do something random that screws everything up. But not today. Today’s going to be great.

Because why shouldn’t it be?

Swinging my hips in time with my favorite song, I finish my foundation off when my phone vibrates. I grab for it and answer automatically.

“Danielle.” Helen’s exhaustion comes through in her voice. “Do you have a minute?”

“Just one. I’m getting ready to leave.” After a quick check in the mirror, I head into the kitchen. I don’t have any time to talk but I know she wouldn’t call me this early in the morning without a reason. “What’s going on?”

“Today’s already a disaster.”

“Really? What’s up?”

She starts telling me all about the struggles she keeps having with Keegan. I swallow some of the coffee I made and wince as it burns my tongue. I try to be supportive while I stuff a piece of barely-toasted bread into my mouth.

Helen’s still talking as I put my shoes on. If I stop now, I’m going to be late. The moment she pauses, I break in. “Things’ll get better, Helen. And I can come by this weekend.”

I already told the guys I’d spend my weekend with them. I’ll have to figure out how to juggle everything once again.

“I don’t think I can manage until then. Is there any way you can stop by tonight?”

I drop my purse while I’m trying to keep hold of my phone at the same time as I’m locking the door behind me. “Tonight?”

Mason’s taking me to his place right from work once we’re done for the day. Brent and Reid are going to come over too. If I cancel on them tonight, they won’t be happy. Especially if I have to shorten our time together on the weekend too.

“It’d really help me out.”

I hurry down the hall. “Alright. I’ll be there. But I really have to go now, Helen.”

“Okay, I’ll see you then.”

Mason’s going to be pissed. They’ve all had to work late every single night this week and we were very much looking forward to tonight. It never feels like we have enough time together, but it’s been extra rough lately. I like all of them a lot. Sometimes I almost feel like I’m starting to fall in love with them.

Although it can’t be possible to be in love with three men at the same time.
