Shortly before the Spring Festival in 2012, Han Han was accused by a number of prominent bloggers of not being the author of the books and blog posts published under his name. His attackers postulated that he and his publishers had arranged for either his father or a team of ghostwriters to do the actual writing, with Han Han just a figurehead whose fame was harnessed to sell books and influence public opinion. The controversy highlighted procedural irregularities in the New Concept Writing Competition, which he won in 1999, and the circumstances behind the drafting of his first novel, Triple Door. One of his chief critics was Fang Zhouzi, a well-known science writer and tenacious fraud buster, with whom Han Han traded barbs several times before eventually bowing out of the fight with the following post.
