CHAPTER 7

Lynsey returned home with her family late evening. It had been a fun-filled day for the kids. It was for her till Mark decided to wind her up. And to make it worse, she saw Siya. It felt like something she kept deep within her snapped. The excitement she felt when she first laid eyes on the girl was immense. But it was immediately replaced by sadness. As Lynsey sat silently beside Mark and watched the kids, her mind kept drifting to Siya. When she finally found the strength to look in the direction again, Siya was gone. After that, she decided to ignore Mark and go help the kids build their sandcastle.

A part of her was happy for Siya. She genuinely looked like she moved on and was enjoying her time with the guy with her. But why was Lynsey still sad. Didn’t she want Siya to move on?

Her head was aching with all the emotions and she hopped in the shower to wash the sand off her. When she was done, she barely dried herself and fell on the bed, unclothed.

She found herself sleeping restlessly. In her dream, she found herself kissing Siya. The girl moaned into her mouth as she caressed her hand on her soft skin. Lynsey gently pulled the shirt Siya was wearing, to reveal her in a blue bikini. Then suddenly, it wasn’t Lynsey touching her, it was the guy she saw with Siya that evening. He kissed her more roughly, passionately. He pulled the strings off her bikini and it fell on the rough sand. Then Lynsey woke up.

She knew she was partially awake but wasn’t sure if she imagined it or if it was a dream. Anger bubbled in her chest which she recognized as jealousy. But she was a married woman with a loving and supporting husband. She should not feel jealous. She did the right thing. There was no way she would consider leaving her family for someone else. But… She had not been truly happy since their conversation in her classroom after the kiss. Ever since that day, there was a void in her heart no one could ever fill, including her husband Mark. She tossed and turned on the bed. She was agitated, sad, worried, and jealous all at once. She wished the earth could open up and swallow her and her worries altogether.

Mark walked inside their room with her phone in his hand.

“You have a phone call, love,” Mark said and handed the phone over to her.

“Thank you,” Lynsey said to him and collected the phone. Mr. Russel’s name was on the screen. She quickly composed herself and tapped on the receive call icon on the screen. Her heart was beating loudly since she had made no progress in her writing at all. What would she tell him? She had already signed the contract.

“Hi Lynsey, how are you?” His voice came over the phone. “I hope I didn’t disturb you during the weekend.”

“Not at all, sir,” Lynsey said.
