Chapter 2

Genevieve Dubois

Today has been the longest day ever and all I want to do is go home and drink a glass of wine, but I had to take Milo to puppy training because the little shit keeps peeing on my shoes. No matter how many times he does it, I can't stay mad at him. I always end up reminding myself that I only got him a month ago when I moved here from Canada and that he is still little.

I went from living at a place where I was only ten minutes away from my parents and five brothers and sisters to living 1,218 miles away. It was a real shock to my system. I didn't think I would miss them so much. I was starting to get lonely, then I found Milo, my little fur baby. I moved out here when the car manufacturer I work for offered me a promotion and a huge bonus. I love it here in Michigan. It is beautiful down here. Ever since I was a teenager, I dreamed of moving to the US. Although through the years my dreams have changed, that has always remained. I never felt like I belonged. I am too loud, too opinionated, and I have a temper that would scare a demon. When I walked through Top Dog and saw Ethan for the first time, that feeling of emptiness and not belonging went away. For the first time in my life, I feel like this is exactly where I am supposed to be, but the minute he disappeared through those doors with Milo, that feeling started to creep back in. I get to work on the papers that he gave me to try and distract myself from what I am feeling. Before I know it, Ethan is back and I am just inches away from him Oh, my sweet baby Jesus, he is gorgeous. I only come up to his broad shoulders and I have to tilt my head back to look into his dark hazel eyes. For some reason, I don't want to leave. Every fiber of my being wants to get to know him better. I want to know what makes him tick. I need to know why he has a service animal. I am not afraid to admit that while he was working with my Milo, I stalked him on social media. There isn’t much there. Only pictures of some of the animals he has helped. Along with a few pictures of him in a military uniform and one with a guy that was taken in front of Top Dog, cutting a ribbon. When I saw that he wasn't married, I couldn’t let him get away.

“You date me, yes?” I blurt out and giggle nervously when his mouth pops open and his eyes widen in shock like no one has ever asked him that question before. I am sure that they haven’t, at least not like that.

“You want to date me, or would I like to go on a date with you?” he asks, stepping a little closer to me.
