Ryder crawled down to the end of the bed and dipped his head between Josie’s legs again. Damn, she tasted amazing. Her musky scent was like an aphrodisiac, exciting him more with every moment, bringing out the animal in him.

His inner beast clawed at his control, demanding he shove his aching shaft into her right that second. However, the small rational part of him won out, knowing it would all be over too damn fast if he gave his lust free rein. More than release, he wanted to make her come first. To savor her pleasure, before giving in to his own.

With only a few flicks of his tongue, he sent her over the edge, making her sing her appreciation a full octave above her normal speaking voice. “Ohhh, yees!”

About the time her body’s trembling began to abate, he rubbed her nub again with his thumb and used his middle finger to massage her G-spot, launching her voice to an even higher pitch. Her cries of ecstasy drove Teddy into a frenzy of yapping. “Oh, gosh.” She panted, in time with the convulsions pulsating around his finger. “That’s incredible.”

Again, he stroked her, forcing another long, deafening shriek of bliss from her. “Ohh—Ryyyyder!”

“That’s it, Joey.” He grinned, loving the sound of his name shouted in her delight and, even better, knowing he was responsible. “Let ‘em hear you in the next county.”

Evidently the primitive concert coming from her mortified her, and she clamped her free hand over her lips to stifle her subsequent cries of pleasure.

The dog’s angry watchdog bark said Teddy thought she was being hurt.

“Oh, no you don’t.” Ryder ripped her hand from her mouth and shoved it back up to the headboard. “I want to hear every decibel of your—” He froze, tipping his head to listen. “Shhh!”

The distinct sound of tires crunching on crusty snow penetrated the windows.

“Shit!” He sprang off the bed and yanked his pistol from the holster he’d laid on the night table. “We have company.” He never should’ve let himself get so distracted by Josie.

“How?” she asked. “There’s a padlock on your gate.”

“That’s what they make bolt cutters for.” Ryder stepped into his boxers and yanked the waistband over his erection before shoving his bare feet into his boots. Fortunately, as soon as Josie’s cries of rapture had ceased, the dog had quieted back down.

He tossed her the handcuff keys. “Get under the bed and don’t make a peep.”

As he crept out the bedroom door and closed it, the floorboards creaked in protest. He silently cursed himself for busting the doorjamb and ruining the lock. At least the thick mattress would shield Josie from any stray bullets if the intruder fired at him.

At the sound of a footstep on the front porch, he ducked behind the recliner in the living room. While he waited, his heart rapped against his ribs like a boxer training on a fast bag. Two more footsteps were followed by the sound of metal repeatedly sliding into the knob, rattling it.
