It is easy to travel with a family in Greece, and Zákynthos in particular is a popular destination for those with children. The Greeks are very tolerant – not to say out-and-out indulgent – of children; it is common to see local youngsters late at night in tavernas, learning early on the circadian rhythms of their elders – eating, playing tag and tormenting the cats under the tables, while visitors’ children will be accepted doing the same. In addition, many of the larger and more expensive hotels and resorts have facilities for children, either full-on kids’ clubs or just play areas and dedicated, shallow swimming pools. Children will be more than happy to visit the Zante Water Village (at Sarakinádho, 3km southeast of Tragáki; http://zantewatervillage.gr; open May–Sept, hours vary by month), a waterpark with a variety of waterslides, swimming pools, warm whirlpools and even a go-kart circuit.
