Action Tools for Contamination OCD

Exposure is a fundamental part of treating all forms of OCD, but nowhere is the in vivo, or direct contact, experience more important than in contamination OCD. This doesn’t mean you have to (or should ever) force yourself to come in contact with anything actually dangerous. You must come in contact with your fear, and you can do this in a number of ways. You don’t have to touch feces or blood or toxic chemicals to overcome a fear of being contaminated by these things. But you do need to be close enough to the thing you fear to feel contaminated. Without creating and habituating to the feeling of contamination, you remain a slave to your efforts to decontaminate.
